Scientific Thinking and Social Responsibility Must Be Fostered Among Youth for Sustainable Development and Nation Building: Dr. Jaspreet Kaur

 

Chandigarh: The Environment Society of India (ESI) organized an interactive session on the theme “From Social Responsibility to Scientific Social Responsibility: Inspiring Young Minds for Nation Building” at Government Model Senior Secondary School (NYC), Sector 23-A, Chandigarh.

 

The program commenced with a welcome address by Engineer Hem Raj Satija, Vice President of The Environment Society of India. He welcomed the keynote speaker, Dr. Jaspreet Kaur from the Department of Botany, Panjab University, Chandigarh, along with all intern students and participants. He emphasized the need to cultivate scientific thinking and a sense of social responsibility among youth, which are essential for sustainable development and nation building.

 

In her keynote address, Dr. Jaspreet Kaur highlighted the need to transform traditional social responsibility into scientific social responsibility, where decisions and actions are guided by knowledge, research, evidence, and environmental ethics. She stated that young people have a crucial role to play in addressing contemporary challenges such as environmental degradation, climate change, loss of biodiversity, waste management, and the sustainable use of natural resources.

 

She described scientific temper, critical thinking, environmental awareness, and community participation as the foundations of a responsible and progressive society. Dr. Kaur encouraged students to adopt environmentally friendly lifestyles and actively contribute to nation building through public awareness and community engagement.

 

The program was attended by intern students from Kurukshetra University, Chandigarh University, Government Post Graduate College Chandigarh, DAV College Chandigarh, and DAV College Karnal. Members of The Environment Society of India were also present on the occasion.

 

Among the distinguished guests were Mrs. Meena Gupta, a renowned social worker, Mrs. Bimal Kanta of RWA Sector-10, Chandigarh, Mrs. Shashi Jhingan, and Mr. Ashok Kumar. All of them described the lecture as highly informative and inspiring.

 

The intern students participated enthusiastically in the session and raised several questions related to environmental conservation, sustainable development, scientific awareness, social responsibility, and career opportunities in environmental science. Dr. Jaspreet Kaur provided simple and practical answers to all the queries, making the session highly engaging and beneficial.

 

At the conclusion of the program, N.K. Jhingan, Secretary of The Environment Society of India and Bharatiya Ekta Manch (Environment Cell), delivered the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to Dr. Jaspreet Kaur. He remarked that she had presented complex environmental and social issues in a simple and effective manner, enabling all interns and participants to understand them easily. He also thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the event.
