SAD Chandigarh Expresses Concern Over Non-Functional Senior Citizen Helpline 14567

S. Charanjit Singh Villy, State President of the Shiromani Akali Dal, Chandigarh Unit, has expressed deep concern and disappointment over the reported non-functional status of the Senior Citizen Helpline 14567 for the past nearly two years, as highlighted in the Times of India newspaper dated 09 August 2026.
Villy said it is extremely disheartening that a helpline meant to provide assistance and support to senior citizens has remained non-functional for such a prolonged period. Chandigarh has a large number of senior citizens who live alone, while many others have their children settled abroad or in other parts of the country. For such elderly residents, a dedicated helpline can be a crucial lifeline during an emergency or whenever they require assistance.
He questioned that if the designated senior citizen helpline itself is not functional, where will our elderly citizens turn to in their hour of need? Such negligence can create unnecessary anxiety, insecurity and nervousness among senior citizens who deserve care, dignity and immediate assistance from the Administration.
Villy urged the Hon’ble Administrator of Chandigarh to take serious and immediate cognizance of the matter and issue necessary directions to the concerned authorities to restore Senior Citizen Helpline 14567 at the earliest. He further appealed that the helpline should be properly monitored and kept operational at all times so that senior citizens can depend upon it whenever they need assistance.
He stressed that a progressive city like Chandigarh must remain sensitive towards its senior citizens and ensure that they never feel helpless or abandoned in times of distress.
